Are you planning to participate in the Pullman Commencement ceremony in May?  Get everything you need at the WSU Grad Fair, the one-stop shop that will save you time and energy (and maybe some money, too).  Wednesday and Thursday, March 26 and 27, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  at the Lewis Alumni Centre   (on Lincoln Way, past the Grimes Way Playfield) Faculty wishing to rent regalia can do so at the Grad Fair. 


Available at the Grad Fair are:
Application for Graduation: Filing of forms and payment to officially complete your studies. You may have already done this, but double-check at the Grad Fair.
Graduation: The official completion of your degree. You’ll receive your diploma via regular mail, so make sure your permanent address on file is correct.
Commencement: A public ceremony celebrating your graduation. There’s lots of pomp and circumstance, cheering, and hand-shaking. Plus you get to dress up.
Student Loans: Review your student account. Review all of your educational loans. All loan borrowers must complete exit counseling.
International Students: What are your plans after graduation? Please make sure to share your plans with International Programs by filling out the International Departure Notification Form.
Register to Walk: How we plan for the ceremony. Tell us that you’ll be there and we’ll make sure you have a seat.
Regalia: The traditional cap and gown of a college graduate worn at commencement. Style depends on the degree earned. Basically, the more time you’ve been in school, the bigger your sleeves.
Cap and Gown Rental: Pick up the regalia you need to walk and save money at the same time. After you pick it up at the Grad Fair you can practice walking with the funky cap and tassel (which you get to keep!). Rental costs are as follows: Bachelor’s $47.94, Master’s $74.92, and Doctoral $97.00.
Diploma Frame: An elegant way to display your hard-earned diploma.
Announcements: Personalized, high quality, hard copy note cards you snail-mail to friends and family to, well,

The next Colloquium speaker will be Erin Wilson Rankin, from UC Riverside.  Her talk, “Effects of omnivorous invaders on arboreal arthropods in a fragmented landscape,” is March 26 in FSHN354 at 12:10.  Erin’s research interests include invasive species and community ecology. Her research focuses on investigating species interactions and their effects on trophic dynamics and ecosystem services within the contexts of invasion biology, community ecology and evolutionary ecology.  Erin draws from ecology, behavior, molecular biology and physiology in designing experiments.  See her bio here: http://entomology.ucr.edu/faculty/Wilson.html.  Erin will be available to meet with folks at WSU on Wednesday, and at UI on Thursday morning.  If you would like to talk with her, please contact me (e.lichtenberg@wsu.edu).

Alex Wild, an ant researcher and photographer (see cover of latest Nature) along with 2 other accomplished entomologists and photographers, John Abbott and Piotr Naskrecki will be offering a 3 day workshop May 22-25, 2014 on Sapelo Island, Georgia.  It will be informative, fun and in a beautiful location. The last day to schedule a final exam for May 2014 graduation is Friday, April 11, 2014 and must be submitted 10 day prior to the exam date.  The last day to take a final exam for May ’14 graduation is Friday, April 25, 2014.  Check with the Entomology Office to make sure rooms are available for the dates you want for your exam.

The 18th Annual Insect Cinema Cult Classic will be on Friday, April 4 at 6:00 PM in Todd 276.  Showing this year are “Bee Movie” (PG rated) and “Killer Bees” (not rated).  Come early and see the beehive display and other insect displays.  T-Shirts will be available for purchase.  See the design at: http://entomology.wsu.edu/blog/event-annual/cult-classics/.
