The firsfirst-fall-collot Fall 2016 Entomology Colloquium will be this coming Monday, Sept 12 at 2:10 PM, in FSHN 354.The AMS dial # is: 5709250. The speaker will be Dr. Hua Bai from Iowa State University, Dept of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology. Don’t forget to attend the CAHNRS Fall Festival on Thursday, September 15th from 4-6 PM. This will be outside on the Spillman Plaza (between Hulbert Hall & Johnson Hall).  There will be student club exhibits, CAHNRS students will be the chance to win one of four $1000 scholarships, free Ferdinand’s ice cream and the free BBQ catered by Porky’s Pit BBQ. This event is for CAHNRS students, staff and faculty and their families.

We are tentatively planning our Fall 2016 new student Meet & Greet the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 23rd.  All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend and introduce yourselves to our new students.  More details to come soon.

The WSU Police Department is relocating to the new Public Safety Building, located at 2201 East Grimes Way, beginning Friday, September 9th. During the move the old front office across from the CUB is still open during normal business hours (Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM), and officers remain responsive to dispatch by the 911 center 24/7. There will be NO interruption in services. For more information, please contact 335-8548.

WSU’s initiative to be recognized as one of the nation’s top 25 public research universities by the year 2030 will be discussed in a series of town hall meetings for faculty, staff and students in September and October. Success in the Drive to 25 will be informed and measured largely by the metrics established by the Center for Measuring University Performance (CMUP) at Arizona State University and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. CMUP publishes a report each year identifying the top American research universities. Learn more about the initiative and metrics, and find a feedback form, at https://wsu.edu/drive-to-25/.  The CAHNRS Session will be at 4:00 PM on Sept. 27th in FSHN T101.  Some of the topics to be covered are:  the strategic Plan, WSU successes, Grand Challenges Research Initiatives, Drive to 25 Followed by a Q&A. Leading the discussion will be WSU President Kirk Schutz and Provost Dan Bernardo.  

Tuesday, September 20, 2016 is the last day that a student may drop a course without penalty.  Drops will result in the course being removed from the student’s transcript. To drop a course, students will go to myWSU, select Student Center, click on Enroll, then choose the Drop tab.

Then take the following steps:

  • Select the class by clicking on the box to the left of the course and click “Drop Selected Classes.”
  • Click “Finish Dropping” to process request.
  • View the results of request. A green check mark under the status indicates success.

The drop will show throughout myWSU immediately, in real time.

Notes:

  • Deadline applies only to regular term (8/22/2016 – 12/16/2016) classes.
  • Some holds will prevent a student from dropping a class, but not all do. Select the details link to see what impact the hold has, and what action is needed. Students must contact the appropriate office to release the hold.
  • International Programs – Global Services located in Bryan Hall 108 must approve class drops for International Students.
  • After Tuesday, September 20, 2016 course withdrawals cost $5.00 each and are recorded on the student’s transcript as W’s.
  • After Tuesday, September 20, 2016 course withdrawals do not reduce tuition charges or the total official hours of enrollment.

FOR TEACHING FACULTY: The WSU PULLMAN Access Center has transitioned to a new accommodation management system (AIM).  All accommodation notification letters and testing accommodation processes will be handled through this new system.  Students will request accommodations online and instructors will submit proctoring instruction forms and exams online.  Instructors play an active role in the smooth operation of this system.  Before your students can actually register (through AIM) to take exams at the Access Center, instructors must first complete and submit an Alternative Testing Agreement form (i.e. a proctoring instruction form) through AIM.  More information about this is available on our website [Link: http://accesscenter.wsu.edu/myaccess/]  and within the emailed accommodation forms. Notifications of student accommodations and links to our Alternative Testing Agreements are now being sent via email.  More information about AIM and how it works is contained in these emails.  NOTE:  Since these emails are generated by AIM, they may initially go to your spam folder.   Please double-check, especially if your student must remind you to complete the Alternate Testing Agreement form.  Faculty Notification Letters will be sent starting this week. Effective January 2017, pesticide handlers and workers must be trained on an annual basis and training records must be kept. This is a big change from previous training intervals. For those who wish a copy of the new rules, you’ll find it here: https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2015-11-02/pdf/2015-25970.pdf  and the summary or new rules starts on page 67502.  Please make sure you review your training calendars, recordkeeping and content in order to be in compliance by January 1, 2017.
