It is with great pleasure we announce that Dr. Keith Pike, WSU Prosser, Irrigated Agriculture Research & Extension Center, has been chosen to be the inaugural recipient of the Washington Wheat Distinguished Professorship. Keith and his team will work to address the important topic of wireworms in wheat production systems.

The Washington Wheat Distinguished Professorship was established in 2010 with an endowment from the Washington Grain Commission. The intent of the Professorship is to provide temporary support to a member of the Washington State University faculty whose research focus coincides with a priority research need identified in conjunction with the Washington wheat industry. The intent is to enhance the capacity of the selected faculty member’s research program for a defined period of time in order to increase its effectiveness in addressing the priority need.

The Professorship is awarded to a faculty member of the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences who holds at least a partial salaried appointment in the WSU Agricultural Research Center. The endowment to be used to support this research is estimated to generate $60,000 annually. The anticipated duration of funding for this project is three years with a possibility of renewal for an additional two years (5 years total).
