Areas of Interest:
As the Statewide Pest Control Operator (PCO) Specialist with the Washington
State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) in Olympia, I am primarily responsible
for regulation of structural pest inspectors and pest control operators.
This position allows me to serve as WSDA liaison to the pest control industry
throughout the Pacific Northwest and to provide educational opportunities
to both our licensees and the general public. I emphasize hands-on experience
and field training for inspectors; this improves the quality of their
inspections and reduces the need for regulatory oversight. Because of
this, home and pest inspectors are better trained to conduct thorough
inspections for the home-buying public.
My research has concentrated on the biology and management of wood-destroying
beetles in the Pacific Northwest. In addition, I work very closely with
Washington schools to provide pest management solutions using an Integrated
Pest Management (IPM) approach.
