Research Interests:

My research in Washington State is focusing on the spatial distribution and phenology of Pandemis and oblique-banded leafrollers and their parasitoids. These studies are aimed at developing better sampling programs and understanding the role of alternate host plants on the population dynamics occurring in the orchard. I am also interested in the population level mechanisms by which mating disruption acts on target pests and how their behavior is influenced by saturating an area with the sex pheromone. Finally, I am tying together my interests in spatial distribution, mating disruption and biological control using protein markers to examine the local movement of insects in and between areas treated and untreated with mating disruption.

Graduate students could carve out a niche in any of the areas above or in the general areas of insect ecology, behavior, biological control or pest management. My lab facilities include 2 wind tunnels, a complete ELISA (enzyme-linked immunoassay) set up, rearing facilities, offices, and both wet and dry lab space.
