Department of Entomology

Our Research

The Northwest Biological Control Insectary / Quarantine facility at the Pullman campus represents the central component of the Department's Biological Control Program.

The James Entomological Collection, one of the largest in the West with over 1 million specimens, supports research and advanced-level teaching.

Specialized on-campus equipment and facilities include a comprehensive sciences library, bioanalytical laboratory, nuclear radiation center, electron microscopes, and a mainframe computer.

Here are some of our research projects (You can also click here to look into research opportunities with the department):

  • Apis Molecular Systematics Laboratory
  • Pesticide Education - WSU's Pesticide Education Program uses education to mitigate risk and prevent pollution from pesticide use. This program has educational opportunities (conferences, courses, manuals, videos) for people who professionally use, recommend, or sell pesticides. Education includes integrated pest management, environmental considerations, pesticide laws, and personal safety. It also has information for home user of pesticides (Hortsense and fact sheets). Pesticide disposal is discussed in depth.
