We received word that Brandon Hopkins earned 2nd place in the oral presentation at the 2014 William R. Wiley Expo, and Alix Whitener also place 2nd place in the poster presentation.   Brandon will receive a $500 award and Alix will receive a $400 award.  Congratulations for a job well done!

If you plan to take your final exam and graduate this semester (May 2014), you must APPLY FOR GRADUATE DEGREE no later than Friday, March 7, 2014.    If you are defending later in this semester, you may not yet be thinking about this step yet, but please make sure you have applied no later than this deadline.   Failure to apply by March 7, 2014 means you will have to Apply to Graduate in the next upcoming semester, which would mean graduating in Summer 2014. The instructions for how you Apply for a Graduate Degree in ZZUsis are located on this instruction page: http://gradschool.wsu.edu/CurrentStudents/index1.html  – make sure you follow Steps 1-8 and CREATE a Diploma Mailing Address.  

The last day to schedule a final exam for May 2014 graduation is Friday, April 11, 2014 and must be submitted 10 day prior to the exam date.  The last day to take a final exam for May ’14 graduation is Friday, April 25, 2014.  Check with the Entomology Office to make sure rooms are available for the dates you want for your exam.  

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

E. Paul Catts Memorial Lecture Events will be on March 12 & 13.  This year’s speaker will be Dr. H. Frederik Nijhou.  His first presentation will be on March 12 at 12:10 PM in FSHN 354 and is titled: The Developmental Physiology of Body Size: Studies with Manduca sexta. On March 13 he will be speaking at 4:10-5:00 PM in CUE 203.  A reception will follow at 5:30-8:30 PM in CUE 518.  His presentation is titled:  The Biology of Butterfly Color Patterns.

The 18th Annual Insect Cinema Cult Classic will be on Friday, April 4 at 6:00 PM in Todd 276.  Showing this year are “Bee Movie” (PG rated) and “Killer Bees” (not rated).  Come early and see the beehive display and other insect displays.  T-Shirts will be available for purchase.  See the design at: http://entomology.wsu.edu/blog/event-annual/cult-classics/.
