ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The next faculty meeting will be April 24th at 11:00 PM in FSHN 164.  AMS# is 5708316

You are invited to join us in celebrating the completion of another successful year and we’re having a BBQ from 11:30-1:30 on May 1, 2015 on the area between the FSHN & Clark Hall Bldgs. This is a jointly sponsored event with the Animal Science, Entomology Departments and School of Food Science.  Provided will hamburgers, sausages with all the fixins’, beverages and table service.  If you will be attending please sign up on the sheet in FSHN 166 or email dory.lohrey-birch@wsu.edu or respond the invitation Adam sent out.  So we can know how many to plan for we need to know by Friday, April 24, 2015.  Please bring a food item to share.  For suggestions see the sign-up sheet.  For those attending and not bringing a food item for the potluck $5.00 fee is requested.

Congratulations to Alix Whitener who was awarded the Student Leadership Award and earned first place in the PhD Poster Competition at the Pacific Branch of the Entomology meetings held last week in Coeur d’Alene, ID.

Kudos to the Entomological Graduate Student Association who were awarded the LEAD award again!  Two years in a row!

Congratulations to our Linnaean Games team won second place and $1000 towards travel to the national meeting in Minneapolis. The team members are Robert Orpet, Robert Zinna, Rebecca Schmidt-Jeffris and Alix Whitener and Rich Zack is their coach.

Congratulations to Cami Jones who passed her PhD exam on Monday, April 13, 2015.  Cami was advised by Jeb Owen.

Workshop offers expert advice on course evaluations:

Three Washington State University experts are offering a workshop titled “Making Sense of Course Evaluations” at 12:10 p.m. April 21. This interactive workshop takes a research-based approach to course evaluations. It will help faculty better assess information, and provide insight into student feedback.  Presenting are Samantha Swindell, clinical associate professor of psychology, and Becky Dueben and Elizabeth Carney, both assessment specialists at the Office of Assessment of Teaching and Learning. The workshop is 12:10 p.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, in CUE 518. Lunch will be served. The presentation will also be live-streamed. To attend, visit the WSU eLearning trainings page.  This workshop is part of a series sponsored by the WSU Provost’s Office, WSU Teaching Academy and WSU Global Campus. Previous workshops have covered flipped classrooms, virtual worlds, student engagement, liberating structures, academic integrity, tech tools and concept mapping.

IMPORTANT DATES TO KNOW:

The last day to schedule Spring 2015 final MS/PhD exams is April 10.  The last day to conduct final exams is April 24, 2015. Spring interim dates are April 27-May 15, 2015.

Please save the date of Friday, April 17, 2015, for the second Student Affairs Symposium.  The theme of the Symposium is ‘Transformative Engagement,’ and it will be an all-day event.

  • Access to your Skylight surveys will be by request only. Email atl@wsu.eduto initiate request.
  • Allow five to seven business days to process your request.
  • June 2015: Skylight decommissioned.  No archive will be available.
