Posted by entomology.office | October 18, 2012

Dear Colleagues,

It is with sadness that I pass along the news of the passing of one of our own, Dr. Bob Harwood. Among Bob’s many accomplishments, he served as Chair of the WSU Department of Entomology from 1969-1980. Below is a copy of the obituary we received from his daughter, Jennifer.  Information regarding memorial contributions and an open house celebration is contained therein.

Steve

Robert Frederick Harwood, April 14, 1927 – October 14, 2012.  Proceeded in death by his delightful wife, Mary Lou Hancock Harwood.  Adored father of Thomas Harwood (wife Sue), Jennifer Lowe and Julie Clark (husband Mark).  Beloved grandfather of Casey Harwood, Andrew Lowe, Sarajane Clark and Robert Clark.  Raised by missionary (Burma) parents, Alma Thomas and Harry Joseph Harwood, thus beginning his lifetime learning experience at the Woodstock boarding school in the foothills of the Himalayas.  Received his PhD from University of Illinois, then continued on at Washington State University as a distinguished professor and Chairman in the Department of Entomology. Served on USAID projects in Sudan, Jordan and Egypt with Mary Lou, before retiring and building his spot of heaven on earth at Priest Lake, ID.  Avid fisherman and gyotaku artist, world traveler, environmentalist, lifetime learner and teacher.  Smart as a whip and healthy as a horse to the end.  His family and many friends will miss his sense of humor and intelligent conversations.

An open house celebration of his life will be held Sunday, October 28th ,2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Paradise Creek Brewery (Old Post Office) in Pullman.
