CAHNRS Fall Festival is on this coming Thursday, Sept. 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. on Spillman Plaza (next to Hulbert and Clark Halls). We have created what we hope is a “bigger and even better” event intended to bring the CAHNRS community together to celebrate the beginning of the academic year. Free food, games, club displays and three $500 scholarships for grad students and $500 scholarship for undergrads.
Our next Entomology Department Colloquium will be on Wednesday Sept. 16. The presenter will be Dr. Krisztian Magori, Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA. The Graduate School is very pleased to announce scholarships available for graduate students for spring and fall 2016. Students must be nominated by the Dean of the college and meet the eligibility requirements of the scholarship for which they are nominated. Some scholarships include awards to several students, and range from $1,000 to $4,000 per year. Information can be found at http://gradschool.wsu.edu/Scholarships-2016/. Scholarships will be awarded on the strength of the required documentation, including areas such as leadership skills, research, quality of a master’s thesis, GPA and scholarly activities. Students may request nomination for any of the scholarships. See the attachment for further criteria for each scholarship.
The Entomological Society of Washington, DC (ESW) is pleased to announce the Society’s Student Award competition. The recipient will be selected based on the highest quality, most impactful student-authored article published in Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington. The Proceedings is an international peer-reviewed journal that publishes the results of entomological and acarological research in the areas of systematics, taxonomy, morphology, natural history, ecology, behavior, biodiversity, and conservation. Please visit the ESW website (http://www.entsocwash.org) for details on the award, Proceedings, and ESW. The recipient will receive life membership in the ESW (currently valued at $600) and a $400 cash award. The recipient will also receive up to $800 to travel to Washington, DC to present at an Entomological Society of Washington meeting or up to $500 for travel to present at a meeting of his/her choice. The recipient
