Biography
Dr. Rae Olsson is a scholarly assistant professor in the department of entomology. They got their start in entomology studying agricultural pests and pollinators during undergrad at The Evergreen State College. From there, they studied pollinator communities during their Ph.D. and honey bee health during their postdoc. Presently, Rae has a strong teaching role in the department, teaching at every level on topics including general entomology, honey bee biology, pollinator ecology, and forensic entomology. They are also the director of the FIELD lab (Forensic Investigations of Entomology in Life and Death) and a Certified Technician with the American Board of Forensic Entomology. Rae is a lifelong Washingtonian, and loves spending time in their garden, traveling to new places and trying new foods, and knitting and sewing clothing in their rest time.
