Specialization and Areas of Particular Interest: As an extension educator my primary responsibility is the exchange of information between the agricultural producers, the tree fruit industry and WSU researchers and specialists. My background and area of expertise is integrated pest management in tree fruit crops. My extension program continuously assesses and responds to the educational and research needs of the Yakima Valley tree fruit industry. There are over 100,000 acres of tree fruits in the Yakima Valley including apples, pears, cherries, peaches, plums and apricots. My program currently focuses on enhancing and facilitating pest scouting and monitoring activities in pears, peaches as well as the other tree fruits. Most of my research activities are in cooperation with WSU researchers and students from Prosser, Wenatchee and Pullman who establish field research trials in the Yakima Valley. Current and past entomological activities include the design of a pear insect field guide, revising crop protection guidelines for tree fruits, management of western flower thrips in peaches, monitoring and identifying the stink bug complex damaging apples and pears.
